Helping children and communities understand, respect and safely enjoy Northumberland's waters.
Bringing water safety education to life through practical experience in real environments.
River Guardians
Learning to understand, respect and stay safe around real water.
River Guardians brings water safety, lifesaving and environmental learning together, giving young people practical skills and confidence around rivers, beaches and other open-water environments.
They learn to recognise hazards, make safer decisions and care for the waters around them.

Water Safety • Environmental Learning • Lifesaving
Bringing together water safety, environmental education and practical lifesaving. Northumberland Water Academy takes learning beyond the classroom and into real environments - helping young people and communities understand, respect and stay safer around our rivers, lakes and coastline.
1
Our Purpose
To give children, young people and communities the knowledge, practical skills and confidence to understand water, respect it and enjoy it more safely.
Learning Through Experience
Through school programmes, River Guardians, practical lifesaving and outdoor learning, we take water safety beyond the classroom and into real environments - rivers, lakes, reservoirs and the sea - where conditions, cold water and changing surroundings make practical experience matter.

Local Water
Local Knowledge
Northumberland's rivers, lakes and coastline create opportunities for curriculum learning, environmental understanding and practical water-safety education rooted in the places young people know.

Learning Into Action
Science, geography, environmental learning and water safety come together through investigation, observation and practical experience - helping young people understand both the environment and how to behave more safely within it.
Bringing learning to Life
From curriculum-linked school programmes and River Guardians to environmental learning and practical lifesaving, we connect education with Northumberland's rivers, lakes and coastline - helping young people understand their environment, develop real-world skills and become safer and more confident around water, and take an active role in caring for the places they learn and explore.
